Sea Sherpa offer kayak safety courses and lessons to suit beginners and experienced kayakers alike. Whether you are just starting out or keen to explore a new area there is always something new to learn. Our range of courses can help you to learn basic paddle strokes, how to rescue yourself from deep water and how to avoid common pitfalls when rigging your kayak and preparing for a trip. Our sessions are booked on weekends on a per-customer basis, get in touch, let us know when you want to go and we’ll work our the details! Rescue & Re-entry Short Course

Before you venture out on the big blue you need to learn how to get back in to your boat from deep water. No-one plans to go over but it happens to all of us eventually. This 1hr short course will teach you a series of ways to re-enter your yak to avoid the panic when the inevitable happens.

Beginners Guide to Sit on Top Kayaking

If you are about to buy a kayak or have just taken the plunge, this course will teach you what you need to know to get started with a combination of an on-shore theory session and on-the -water practise.  Learn about kayak types, rigging, paddle strokes and rescue techniques.

Junior Paddler’s After School Club

This course is designed for Grade 5 and 6 students that are new to kayaking. The course covers paddle clothing & safety equipment, paddle strokes & manoeuvring, rescue techniques and paddle signals through lessons and games.

Fishing Port Phillip Bay -Soft Plastics and Squidding

This course is perfect for new comers to the sport of kayak fishing – no prior experience necessary! Learn how to rig and use soft plastic lures to catch flathead and snapper. You will also learn how to use squid jigs to nab a fresh feed of calamari. You can paddle your own kayak or take the jump seat in a tandem Stealth. We can also cater for parent & child bookings.

Fishing Western Port -Chasing Flake and Anchoring Techniques

This course is ideal for someone who has already done a little bit of kayaking or fishing or both! Learn how to use an anchor in current. This course will also teach you how to use running sinker rigs to target snapper and flake. We will explore the top end of Western Port learning about the effect of tides in the area to keep you out of the mud!
